Description:

It has been around 6 years now. in 2004, there were only very few ugly fonts. Raghindi (Raghu hindi) font was there, but look very casual kind of font. Mangal by microsoft is really a eye-sore. :)

Being a non-professional in font field, and licensing things. I did not care much. The font exception came a bit later I guess. So, there was no need to add any exceptions etc...

Gurumaa opentype font is based on binary Indic.ttf (GPL) by Sanjay Khatri; I did not use/modify Sanjay Khatri's font's source.

I added the code required to the Combination/Complex Devanagari Characters to work in Linux and Windows XP.

Now Reading Hindi in Windows is pleasurable!

I have uploaded only the Gurumaa.ttf, as XP and Openoffice/Gnome can do both Bold and Italics. Unfortunately KDE4x can do italics only, and bold variations does not work with KDE.

For better look and feel use Cleartype in Windows XP.

It looks very good with AntiAlias enabled in KDE, OpenOffice and in PDF too. Print quality is just amazing!
Please report any troubles with the font to "fast DOT rizwaan AT gmail DOT com"

license:
gpl2, gpl3, free to modify and redistribute; documents/embedding is allowed; only the derivative font is required to be GPLed, not the text documents/images/videos.

Changelog:

v. 1.50: many issues with font rendering in windows.
v. 1.4: fixed Ascender top alignment for KWord 2.2.1. Now font woks in kword 2.2.1 without getting cut on the top. v.1.30 and v.1.4 are included in the download package.

 Font exception for Guruma font

 by raghavendra37 on: Jul 15 2010

Hi,
I just now downloaded the gurumaa fonts v. 1.30-1. In the change log it says that this font fall under the GPL category with font exception. But the license file in the zip file does not mention anything about the font exception. It is plain GPL V 2.

Can anyone please confirm if the gurumaa v. 1.30-1 comes with GPL and font exception ?

Regards,
Raghu
